Animal protection groups seek ways to charge farm owner for neglect of animals. | Stock image
An animal rescue group has accused a Dallas County farm of disposing multiple dead horses on their property, We Are Iowa reported.
Linda Kilbourne has been charged with improper disposal after she was found burning the body of a horse on her property. It is suspected that she has also disposed of dozens of other horses in similarly improper ways.
Individuals who formerly worked with Kilbourne confirmed that the woman was notorious for neglecting the animals and neighbors had seen horses escaping from the farm in the past.
AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and Transport, an animal rescue group, said that they are concerned about the wellbeing of these animals.
Amy Heinz, executive director of the group, said that there is nothing that the group can do about the situation.
“They're still starving. They're still dying, they're still being burned,” Heinz told We Are Iowa.
Under Dallas County law, the classification of horses as livestock makes any charges of neglect difficult to carry out.
Heinz is hopeful that she can help build a case against Kilbourne who, as of now is only facing five counts of improper disposal.
